Our Diverse Sunday Fellowship

Today was a crystal-clear Spring day with temperatures in the 60s. The good weather affects our Sunday Fellowship attendance, 85 today.

A bit of the Fellowship’s history is in order. When the Silver Lake director canceled the Chaplain-led Sunday Chapel, we residents rebelled and started our own, resident-led Sunday service.

We call ourselves the “Sunday Fellowship” because we are non-denominational. We stick to the simple, core message of Jesus: to love and care for one another. We have Lutherans, Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, and a smattering of other Evangelical denominations–and even a few “unchurched”.

Our attenders come from independent living, assisted living, and even memory care. We average about 25 walkers and wheelchairs each week.

We are completely apolitical, welcome everyone who is a believer or seeker, and ask no questions about orientation. We use the word “attenders” instead of “members” to show that there is no barrier to joining our services.

Our lay leadership team includes the Lead Chaplain, who serves as an adviser and is not regarded as our pastor. We believe we are led by the Spirit, who has been active in lighting the way ahead. Over the last two years, our attendance has grown from about 35 to our current average of 85-90. On Easter, we had 121 in attendance.
